Any meal will be enhanced by this chipotle sauce! It is acidic, creamy, smokey, and simple to prepare with basic ingredients. I adore it on a variety of foods, including robust salads, morning tacos, and burrito bowls. I'm sure you'll fall for it too if you give it a try!
I know I say this all the time, but I firmly think that a fantastic sauce is the secret to a wonderful vegetarian dish—or any meal, really. One of the finest is this creamy chipotle sauce, which gives anything you're eating a ton of flavor.
What you’ll need
This basic dish calls for only a few ingredients. Here are the major items you'll need:
- Chipotle Peppers with Adobo Sauce. Use the canned product that you often get in the grocery store. You can also use a product called "adobo sauce". It has a smoky-spicy flavor from smoked and dried jalapeño peppers. The dried chipotles are soaked in a wonderful adobo sauce.
- Greek yogurt or sour cream.
- Mayonnaise. Use your favourite brand. Works well with vegan mayonnaise.
- Garlic.
- lime juice.
- Olive oil.
- Honey or maple syrup.
How to Make the Best Chipotle Sauce
What is the key to creating a delicious chipotle mayo? Adobo-sauced canned chipotle chiles. They are one of my favorite components for savory meals because of their fantastic smokey, peppery flavor. Don't worry if you've never used chipotles in adobo; they're easy to locate. They are found in the Mexican section of most supermarkets. Use any leftover chipotles from this recipe in tofu sofritas, black bean soup, or BBQ jackfruit sliders!
I create an irresistible sauce in this dish by balancing the spice of the chipotles with sweetness from honey, richness from Greek yogurt and mayonnaise, and brightness from lime. A little olive oil thins the sauce, and garlic gives it a delicious taste.
Making it is simple: simply pulse the ingredients in a food processor until they are creamy and smooth!
Variations
- Turn it into a vegan meal. Replace the yogurt and conventional mayonnaise with vegan mayo. Use maple syrup in place of the honey.
- Not even yogurt? No issue. Use sour cream in its place. You could also make a chipotle aioli by substituting more mayo.
How to Use Chipotle Sauce
Alright, your chipotle sauce is ready. What are you going to do with it now?
You have so many delicious choices! Here are some suggestions to get you going:
- It can be used as a dipping sauce. Its smoky flavor goes great with air fryer cauliflower, French fries, sweet potato fries, and more! Even on tortilla chips, it tastes fantastic.
- Add it to a vegetable burger or sandwich. I adore it on black bean and vegetable burgers.
- Pour it over a dish of grains. Try it with your next bowl of burritos!
- Or serve it with burritos or tacos. I adore it on cauliflower tacos and mango tacos. It tastes great with vegan or breakfast burritos as well.
Chipotle sauce leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to four days in an airtight container.
