Why you’ll love it
This simple version of ranch dressing is delicious. In less than 10 minutes, you get a ton of flavor! Tacos and boring salads are becoming obsolete. I think you'll love this chipotle sauce with fresh lime if you enjoy recipes with a Mexican flair.
From salads to tacos to grilled veggies, this creamy, subtly flavored, and seductive cilantro lime ranch dressing complements a wide variety of foods. You didn't realize you needed this kick-assisted ranch dressing in your life.
What you’ll need
This basic dish calls for only a few ingredients. Here are the major items you'll need:
- Sour cream and mayonnaise are the somewhat acidic, refreshing, and creamy basis. It contributes to the ranch's distinct flavor.
- Make sure the cilantro is as fresh as possible.
- Chili pepper in adobo sauce - I like things on the milder side, so I started with only one chili, but you may add even more heat if you desire.
- Lime juice provides zesty freshness.
- Worcestershire sauce is a must-have for adding umami flavor to dressings and sauces.
- Garlic powder and onion powder - for an extra flavorful depth of flavor.
- Smoked paprika, my not-so-secret ingredient! It provides a mild smokiness.
What is adobo sauce?
It's the sauce found in those tiny chipotle chili pepper cans. It usually contains vinegar, garlic, and other aromatic spices and is acidic, smokey, and slightly sweet. You shouldn't have any trouble locating canned chipotles in adobo sauce because they are typically easily found in the Mexican/international section of most large grocery shops.
How to make chipotle sauce
This is a summary with detailed pictures. The recipe card below contains all of the ingredients and instructions.
- In your food processor, combine all the ingredients and process until the required consistency is achieved! Simple as pie. It tastes great as soon as you whip it up, but it will thicken if you cool it for a while. I like to let it chill for about an hour. It will have a more dip-like consistency when chilled, making it ideal for dipping veggies.

- I used a teaspoon of the adobo sauce and one smallish chipotle chile pepper. I realize that some people might like it much hotter, but that was enough kick for me! To your liking, feel free to add more.
- If you want to burn your lips, you could also add some chipotle chile pepper powder while you're at it. 😉
